  5. HOW TO INSTALL PERSONAL PAGER ONTO YOUR HARD DRIVE
  6. --------------------------------------------------
  7. To install Pager onto your hard drive, run Microsoft Windows, and
  8. select "File" then "Run..." from the main menu in the Program Manager.  
  9. If you are running Windows 95, select the "Run..." command from the Start 
  10. menu instead.  Enter the full path, and run the program SETUP.EXE.  For 
  11. example, if you are installing from a disk in drive A:, type A:SETUP and
  12. then click the mouse on the OK button or press RETURN.
  13.  
  14. Follow the on-screen installation instructions to proceed.  You will be
  15. asked to enter the path to the directory on your hard drive where you wish
  16. to install the program files, or to accept the default choice.  The installation
  17. program will copy the files to your hard drive and create a Program
  18. Manager group which will contain the game.  To run Pager, simply open
  19. the group, and double click the mouse on the icon of the game.

  21. Notes on Personal Pager operation.

  23. *    This product has been designed to operate under Windows 95
  24.     although it will also run under Windows 3.1 or higher
  25.  
  26. *    Use the drag and drop QuickHelp for information on all buttons and
  27.     lists on any screen. QuickHelp is invoked by left-clicking the HELP
  28.     icon on the top right of any screen and dragging the icon onto a 
  29.     control or anywhere else on the screen where the pointer turns to 
  30.     an arrow.

  32. *    Install problems under Win 3.x - If you have any problems installing
  33.     Pafer you can try this :
  34.     * Create a new directory on your hard drive ie: temp1
  35.     * Copy all files on both install diskettes to this directory.
  36.     * Run Setup.exe from this new directory    (temp1) specifying the new 
  37.         directory name as the 'Install From' directory.
  38.     * When installation is complete you can delete the directory you
  39.         just created (temp1) and all of the files in it.
  40.  
  41. *    Display Problems - problems have been reported where the display
  42.     resolution of the monitor is ultra high ( 1600 x 1200 ). Sometimes
  43.     some the windows appear in awkward positions. In this release this
  44.     problem still remains so you may want to set the screen resolution
  45.     down a bit.
  46.     
  47. *    Voice Recording Problems - Three hardware items are essential
  48.     for successful voice recording and transmission as follows:
  49.  
  50.     Voice Modem ( Equipped with the Rockwell chipset )
  51.     16550 UART serial port
  52.     Soundblaster or compatible sound card
  53.  
  54.     Without these 3 items voice recording and transmission will not be
  55.     possible.
  56.     Note that with a normal modem ( as opposed to voice modem ) it is still
  57.     possible to have Pager attach a call to a memo and it WILL dial the
  58.     call but no voice transmission will occur.
  59.  
  60.     It is essential that the correct port is assigned when you first
  61.     set up your modem in the Setup screen in the VRouter.exe utility.
  62.     Check you modem settings in the Windows 'Control Panel' to make sure
  63.     you are using the right port and that there are no IRQ conflicts.
  64.     
  65.     If you receive the message :
  66.     "An unknown error has occurred whilst recording this voice file - check the modem connected is Voice 
  67.     Capable and a microphone is connected. Also ensure the comm port being used is 16550 UART 
  68.     compatible." 
  69.     the chances are that:
  70.     *) the modem is not a voice modem or
  71.     *) the serial card being used is not of type: 16550 UART or
  72.     *) the sound card is not Soundblaster compatible
  73.     In any case you must have the correct hardware before recording
  74.     and transmitting.
  75.  
  76.     If you still have problems under Win 3.x upgrade to Windows 95 and
  77.     all should be OK.

  79. *    If the PAGER.INI file in your windows directory becomes corrupted or
  80.     deleted you can either:
  81.     *
  82.     reinstall the product ( SAVING THE PAGER.MDB and PAGER.LDB ) files first
  83.     these are your current database files so you probably don't want
  84.     to have them overwritten with an empty database - after reinstall copy these
  85.     two files back to your re-install directory.
  86.     *
  87.     unpack the pager.in_ file from the distribution diskettes or CD or
  88.     download it from your original source. Use the Windows 'expand.exe' 
  89.     utility to decompress it. After that place the file in your current
  90.     Windows directory. Failing any of these methods you can eMail me
  91.     at smayn@ozemail.com.au and I'll send you a brand new pager.ini file.

  93.     nb : - The pager.ini file holds a Shareware license number - if this 
  94.     file gets deleted you will have to re-enter this code number when the
  95.     file is re-constructed or reinstalled- look at the 'Version' entry 
  96.     in the pager.ini file. If this ID number is blank or incorrect it 
  97.     means the product is not registered yet!!
  98.  
  99. *    If the date does not appear correctly on the main screen, it may
  100.     be because the date has been set in an incompatible format from the
  101.     Windows date settings.
  102.     Check the Regional Settings under Windows 95 or Control Panel under
  103.     Win 3.x and select a date format that is valid and displays 
  104.     correctly in Personal Pager.
